    What is BVD?

Bovine viral diarrhea is a common viral disease affecting cattle. It is caused by the bovine viral diarrhea virus. Due to the diversity in the genetic and antigenetic properties of the virus, the clinical manifestation of BVD is highly different and four types may be distinguished, i.e. transient acute infection, rare severe acute infection, persistent infection, chronic infection and mucosal disease.

Why is it important to protect cattle from infection?

Bovine viral diarrhea has negative impact on both reproduction and production, and it is considered one of the most relevant cattle viral disease. BVD can reduce productivity of cattle herds in many ways, e.g. milk production, reproductive performance, growth or general resistance against diseases, it normally has a huge economic impact. To protect your farm from infection elimination of PIs, biosecurity and vaccination are recommended.
